Zorro Lightning
Zorro Lightning
When I left the house I headed to Nebraska with all the intentions of catching a storm cell there. The storm shifted by the time I got to Lake McConaughy so I looked for different places to catch the servere thunderstorm that was moving in. I headed down to Kansas and found a county road that I sat at for a few hours before the thunderstorm arrived. I got this shot and a few others before all hell broke lose. I loved the way this shot looked like the Zorro “Z” slashed across the sky. This shot was shared by Outside Magazine on their social media shortly after it was taken in 2021. This was hands down the worst storm I have ever sat through and the roads in Kansas became like clay when they were saturated with water… I thought I was going to lose my truck multiple times. I fought through the rest of the storm before I found a state park to sleep at for the night. I drove back at the crack of dawn and vowed to never go storm chasing in Kansas again. When it was all said and done I had driven over 1,000 miles for this storm chasing adventure.
