A couple of years ago I started hiking more alpine lakes in the winter and searching out unique features in the mountains of Colorado. I started noticing ice waves on the alpine lakes and how much they changed throughout the season. We got up to Sky Pond and I found these beautiful waves of ice spread across the lake. I loved the way the highlights of the sun were creating a sheen across all the edges of ice. Sky Pond is still one of my favorite places to visit in the winter and there is always a new adventure coming to this lake.
