There’s a very small window in between fall and winter where the lakes begin freezing over which gives you the opportunity to capture some amazing reflections due to the smaller volumes of water being surrounded by the ice. I headed up to do one of my favorite hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park and Loch Vale was not completely frozen over yet. The mountain that resides over this lake is called Sharktooth Mountain and it’s my favorite peak in all of Colorado. I moved around the partially frozen lake (and broke through a few times), until I found the perfect spot with a beautiful reflection of Sharktooth Mountain on the water in front of me.
