April 28th, 2024 marked the first day of my storm chasing season for the year. This is officially the earliest start I have had to the season in my 5 year storm chasing adventures. I chased a cell out northeast of Denver when I started seeing lightning. I was trying to take a few shots but I ended up right under the cell with a ton of rain coming down. I drove about a half hour on county roads trying to skirt it but the lightning eventually froze up from a cold cell that was right behind it. As I was driving I saw the sun about to come out under the cloud cover so I found an area with an opening to capture the inevitable rainbow that would be showing up soon. Once I saw the rainbow I pulled off on another dirt road and set up for this shot. The wind was brutal and the rain kept spewing everywhere but it was worth capturing this shot before the sun went down and the rainbow faded into the night.
